Green Earth Growers

Annuals · Veggies · Herbs · Pots & Baskets

Green Earth Growers is a women-owned greenhouse just south of the Twin Cities, founded in 2004 by Jenny Hotz and Jolea Gress.

Certified Naturally Grown, everything they grow follows the National Organic Standards: no synthetic pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, and no neonicotinoids.

Instead of chemical pest control, they rely on Integrated Pest Management — releasing beneficial predatory insects to keep pests in check — and use neem oil as a natural alternative when needed. Plants are nurtured with compost teas and natural fertilizers, and growth rates are managed through natural temperature differentials rather than the growth-retardant chemicals common in conventional greenhouses. The result is healthier, more resilient plants that are safer for your family, your garden, and the bees.

Native Perennials · Hardy Perennials

A family-run greenhouse with over 52 years of growing experience, nestled among the lakes and prairie potholes of west-central Minnesota. Run by Gene and Muriel Stark and their son Jeremiah and his wife Amie, Glacial Ridge is guided by a simple mission: "Restoring the Prairie One Backyard at a Time."

Their specialty is locally sourced, Minnesota-ecotype native plants — grown from seed native to our region, genuinely adapted to our soils, our winters, and our pollinators. Several varieties are specially selected for the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee, a threatened species native to Minnesota.

Glacial Ridge grows entirely without neonicotinoids, GMOs, or growth-retardant chemicals. Each winter, their greenhouses freeze solid for two months to knock back insects naturally — then ladybugs handle anything that returns in spring. As Gene says: "We try to take the good things from technology while leaving out the bad things, like chemicals."
